| Concerned about the decline in
highway and bridge projects? |
|
On Tuesday, February 26
at 1 p.m. in Room 126 of the State House, the Transportation
Committee will hold a public hearing on the Governor’s
supplemental budget, LD 2196 that is needed to balance the state
budget through June 2009.
The MBTA urges
members who are concerned with the decline in highway
reconstruction projects, paving or bridge reconstruction to attend
the hearing or contact transportation committee members to voice
your concerns. The budget continues the
legacy of allowing the deterioration of our highway and bridge
infrastructure. As drafted, the budget doesn’t include any
solutions or revenue enhancements to the transportation funding
crisis. Last year, the MaineDOT was the only major state agency to
have its budget actually receive a cut in expenditures from the
prior biennium. Please let your concerns
be heard. Plan on attending the hearing. If you can’t, please
be sure to contact members of the Transportation
Committee:
Investment in our transportation infrastructure is one
investment that pays us back again and again. It helps stimulate
the economy and improves safety and quality of life for every
citizen in Maine.

March Meeting Thursday, March 6, 2008 • 5
p.m. Portland Marriott • 200 Sable Oaks Drive, South Portland
Join the MBTA, as we discuss emerging concepts
in transportation funding – ideas that could be the key to
Maine’s transportation future. Can Maine attract private investors
to help foot the bill for these major new projects? Are
public-private partnerships part of the answer?
Eva Lerner-Lam, founder of the Palisades Consulting Group
based in China and New Jersey, will be our guest speaker. She
will talk about global trends in infrastructure financing and what
Maine stands to gain by re-inventing the transportation funding
model. Ms. Lerner-Lam has 30 years of international experience in
transportation plan¬ning, operations, research and policy making.
She recently won the Max L. Wilder Award at the 2007 Maine
Trans¬portation Conference for her presentation on the financing
and expansion of China’s transportation network. Please come and
invite your legislator! For more information
